Background

The idea for Star Drek IV began when we were invited to how Star Drek 1,2, or 3 at the Shakycon national SF convention, sheduled for the following year. We decided the crudely filmed & edited original cuts were not good enough for such a showing. But what if we created a new film, especially for the event...?

Our collective acting skills were still probably not up to the standard of a Gerry Anderson puppet, but the production was a lot slicker than the previous efforts. Shot on location in Wellington (and outer space), pre and post production has spanned nearly 12 months, and still continued up until the night before the world premiere, on 30 June 1992

For the remastered version, all the original footage was digitally transferred to PC in April 2012. The scenes were then re-edited, cleaned-up, colour corrected, and re-soundtracked by October 2014. All the original Special Effects (FX) and credit sequences were replaced with computer animation.

Storyline

"Captains Log Stardate 007.7 - We are investigating reports of increased Kligulon activity in this sector, and intend to show them who's the boss! However, a Starfleet ambassador is aboard to negotiate a treaty, before we go ahead and blast them anyway"

Evil nemesis Rancid G Burger seeks revenge for all the villains defeated by Captain Jirk and the USS 2ndPrise crew in Star Drek 1-3 - he plans to explode MacGenesis, turning all food in the federation into rancid gherkinburgers. Or maybe not...

Whilst Jirk, Spook, and Grones face death and destruction on the planet surface, the Klingulons attack and Snotty finally gets his chance to teach them a lesson. The ever-present Starfleet Ambassador has other ideas however, and takes control of the ship. Nothing else could possibly go wr#o*ng#.....

BLOOPERS

Uncensored funny out-takes from multi-day filming schedules

EXTENDED & DELETED SCENES

Extended footage from various takes, where the full version was cut down for reasons of timing; Also included are the original FX shots & credit sequences that were deleted redone in CGI for the remaster

REMASTERED FX 2014

The original source tapes had to be time base corrected during the transfer to stabilise the picture, and later colour corrected (some of the original footage was shot with incorrect white balance, which gave scenes a yellow/orange tinge). The 2ndPrise and Klingon ships were created with Autodesk 3DSMAX, all FX other elements were created in Photoshop and animated with Adobe After Effects
